I use serals and keygens to find out what's worth buying, for example, because sometimes demo versions just plain suck. They are unnecessarily crippled sometimes. I personally support the Microsoft model in this case where for example they'll give you a certain key for 60 day of uncrippled use of the software. After that, whoever can afford to, and knows little about computers, and believes the hype that someone is watching everything you do, will get the software legally. The people who can't afford it will either get a free alternative, or use a pirated version. In any case, the use of the pirated version is the lesser evil for microsoft because while they do not get money (which matters little, since they weren't going to get it anyways), at least it will not cause them to lose "market share". If the user chooses the pirated version, he still broadens the MS user base, which is also beneficial to the software suite.
