SaveMyNing: Backup Service For Your Ning Network

Ning has always been a cool free web service for creating your own social networking website. However, now that Ning have announced that they will be phasing out the free networks in their site to focus on their paid service, Ning members are scrambling to find free alternatives.

SaveMyNing is a website that offers a backup system so that you can still access a static version of your site. However, since it’s just a backup, you cannot upload or add new posts in your network.

To use Save My Ning, you need to sign up for an account and supply pertinent information about your network such as its URL, number of members, forum usage, and others. This service is on a first come, first serve basis and they cannot guarantee that they can attend to everyone who sign up.

After signing up, a representative from Save My Ning will contact you about archiving and backing up your forum. They will implement a web crawler that will create a copy of your pages and host them so that you and your members can access a static version of the site. The site is also exploring the possibility of a paid service that allows you to download a backup of your network to your computer so you can host it yourself.

Save My Ning is probably the best remedy for Ning fans. All free websites will be phased out on May 4, so you better hurry up if you want to back up your Ning website.
