As a webdev guy, I’ve tried to get my customers signed up with this, and the view from my side of the fence is pretty ugly. You start by registering and then submitting sites for “authentication”, then you wait for them to test them and compile a report with various metrics. Well, a week later, and they still haven’t gotten to a site, and my attempts to reach and question anybody on the delay has been a horror. Right this minute, even though I have an open case and a priority number, I’ve been waiting for over 30 minutes listening on speakerphone to the worst sound system since radio crystals and cat whiskers play Christmas Carols! I’m sorry, that’s bogus.

I’m stuck here because my client is ready to dump me because it’s Symantec, right? they’re a great company, right? It must be you, Graphicjer, that is doing something wrong. Bull. And if I am doing something wrong, it shouldn’t take this amount of effort to get eddukated.

And guess what? When and if I DO get someone, they will barely speak or understand English, the King’s or otherwise, and the sound quality will buzzkill the rest.

I vote ’2 thumbs down’ on a system with this level of non-support for it’s registered customers.

I call bull. don’t listen to these guys and their reviews on sites that review sites. Norton’s Safeweb is as good as it gets. I checked keylogger123 dot com on both sites and Norton’s checked out correctly having spyware on that site. That other site, Siteadvisor did not catch on to that.

Norton SafeWeb is a database driven service and gives false positives and false negatives. It’s a blacklist/blackmail service.

Based on the tests I ran, I wouldn’t trust Norton SafeWeb just yet. I had it check a couple well-known shit site, such as: s-y-s-n-e-t-s-e-c-u-r-i-t-y [dot] c-o-m (and dot net) …and it found no problems.

SiteAdvisor, on the other hand, scanned the sites & threw up warnings, because it found links pointing to malware & other well-known shit sites.

A couple of points –

The beta version of the toolbar is available as an add-on to the Norton Internet Security 2009 beta at the beta download page.

And you don’t have to register to write a review of a website, you can write reviews anonymously. It’s free and easy to sign up though, and then you can keep track of your reviews!
