Nowadays, textbooks have become so expensive even for rental purposes. Even if a student decides to rent a textbook, its rent might be close to the original cost of the book which they must return in a few days depending on the demand of that book and if they return it after the due date, it might cost as much as the book itself. LibraryPirate is one such service which solves this problem to some extent and helps students get a digital copy of the book by paying the rental amount rather than the full cost of the ebook.

With LibraryPirate, students can rent the book and keep the electronic copy of the book forever. The service works in such a way that you request the book on LibraryPirate and the site staff look for different eTextbook rental services offering the book and notifies the student about its current rental price. Participating students are then requested to purchase a gift certificate from the original seller equal to the amount of rent and send the gift code to LibraryPirate.
The staff then makes some changes to the book and removes the DRM from the PDF file which is available for download via a torrent file. It can then be shared with any friend or can be saved on different devices for offline reading. However, in order to use the service you must sign up for a free account.

And this is legal, how, exactly?
Unfortunately it is not. However, it is still better than not paying the authors at all.
