iSpeech: Convert Websites & Docs To MP3 Audio
Using iSpeech you can convert websites, RSS feeds, blogs and documents (Word, PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, Rich Text File, HTML etc.) to speech. All you have to do is upload the document (say some PDF file) or enter the address of the site/feed you want to convert to speech and click on “Convert” button.
Once the conversion is complete you can:
- playback and listen to it online,
- download and store the recording on your PC,
- podcast it,
- or embed it as an audio object on any site and let others play it as well

I’ve tried this site and it’s definitely not free. There’s a more complete and truly free text to speech solution at YAKiToMe! http://www.yakitome.com. YAKiToMe! converts websites, RSS feeds, blogs, MS Word, PDF, txt, etc. to speech and can output mp3, wav, and other formats. It also has web2.0 groups and automatically makes rss podcasts out of your results. Check it out.
Thanks for the review. It sounded mildly interesting until I checked out the iSpeech website. First impression, performance was slow and something in the javascript crashed my IE7.0 browser. As far as I can tell, it has a single free voice which is lower in quality compared to the Yakitome site you list on your review that has many free high quality voices. The Spokentext site also charged money for using the high quality voices, just like ispeech. Overall, I wasn’t too impressed with the ispeech offering.
