If you’re looking for a web app to text overseas for free then definitely give GizmoSMS a try. No registration or email required. And since it works directly from the browser you don’t have to get up and look for your phone. The only drawback is that there is no ‘From’ field so you’ll have to add your name to the end of the message.
GizmoSMS doesn’t charge anything for sending text messages. However, depending on the receiver’s carrier and mobile service plan s/he may incur standard charges.
