Fwix: Aggregates News For Your Local Area

If you love reading local news, but absolutely hate how the website of your local newspaper is laid out, Fwix is a local news aggregator that certainly worth checking out. This service seeks out news sources in your city and aggregates the biggest stories on a clean homepage that includes your local weather.

aggregates news

Fwix goes beyond aggregation, however; you can comment on any story directly through Fwix, thanks to a frame around the article. This is a great way to comment on articles for newspapers that don’t include comment functions, or to bypass any rules and regulations your local newspaper might have in terms of commenting.  Every article linked to on Fwix also includes a quick survey regarding the article at the top of the article. This helps create a community that stretches beyond any one news source.

The service doesn’t cover the entire world, though it does cover most major cities in the USA as well as a few in Great Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland (although the latter only includes Dublin.) American cities are overwhelmingly favored at the moment: my home city of 100,000 people is included (Boulder, Colorado) but international users in towns and cities of similar sizes are for the most part left out.
