I read some time ago that Governments approved and permit AES because, in case of National security problems, they can recover and see the content of the encrypted files using an universal password or ‘key recovery’ method… anyone better knows about this and if it’s true?
In this way encryption is only valid for personal or private use until someone discovers how to decrypt them using this ‘government’ method…
Ideas?!

Totally agree. Because the service is web based you can't really rely on it. But if you are somewhere far from your PC or just want to send someone sensitive files than it may come in very useful.

The other serious problem with this is the files can only be decrypted using their website. So if anything ever happens to them, you are totally screwed. If you handle the encryption locally, you can be in control of the application that can decrypt your files so you can always get your data back.

If you have to upload the unencrypted file, that pretty much defeats the purpose of encrypting it. For real security you need to encrypt it locally so it never leaves your machine in an unencrypted state.
Truecrypt is a free, open-source, cross-platform encryption utility that can do all that and it has a lot of other useful features. www.truecrypt.org
