VirtualRadio is an application for Java enabled cell phones which allows the user to listen to Internet radio stations on their cell phone. The app uses the GPRS internet connection available on almost all cell phones to download the audio at a rate of 32kb/s. The audio quality is very high and music is crisp and uninterrupted.

There are loads of different channels to choose from  and categories (called groups) to browse through channels which interest you such as ‘Music’ and ‘Politics’.

If you just want to feel like you learned something new today, check it out. You will understand a perspective that might have never occurred to you otherwise. It combines what will be the norm in a few years: TV style news and interviews with quality of newspaper articles. The coverage is often light-hearted in tone where appropriate, but hard-hitting in terms of content.

The TV function is good. You don’t get this cheaply done stuff with a washed up presenter, bad graphic effects and stolen clips from NBC. They get exclusive pieces and access to press events that actually mean something within their respective genre. For example, when I reviewed the site they had stories about 9/11 and Google’s CEO discussing geothermal energy.

If you have a Facebook account then you can log in using that instead of registering to make comments etc… To view videos, read articles or just browse it’s completely free and there is no need to register.

This is a very useful site and best of all, it works great on the iPhone for when you’re on the move.

Setting up the alerts is really easy, user basically needs to select where byTagg should look for updates (news sources, blogs, web etc.) and provide alert keywords. For instace, if you setup news alert for “iraq” you will only get alerted on Iraq related news. Same applies on alerts on blog feeds. As for alerts on changes in search results there are advanced options that allow user to setup alerts for specific phrases and restrict them to specific domain.

Streetread basically aggregates the latest headlines from over 20 of the leading finance sites on the web and the various stocks based on your preference.

The interface is simple, fast and easy to understand. Registration is not mandatory, however doing that would give you more customization options.

Clicking on a news headline opens the article within its interface and there are no annoying pop ups. Also you could easily get the information about a stock and the latest news related to it doing the rounds.

How does it work?

1. Sign-up and install SpinSpotters browser plugin called ‘Spinoculars‘.
2. Whenever you stumble upon a biased article, highlight that part and click on ‘create spin marker’.
3. Correct the text with somethig you feel would be more appropriate and save it.
4. Anyone who has “Spinoculars” plugin will be able to see and rate your markers.
5. Similarly, you can view and rate markers left by other users.

Using Archive Search you can search for events, people or ideas and see how often they have been mentioned in the news over time. As you can see in the screenshot above, the homepage gives you a general overview of your feeds along with the latest updates. When you click on the story link it gets loaded inside the Spreed speed-reading player.

The player has a distraction free interface where you can easily focus on the words. There are also options to increase or decrease the reading speed. Spreed also lets you upload and speed-read the Microsoft Word documents. Quite handy.

iPhone users might also want to check out the iPhone version of Spreed. This one allows you to load your iPhone bookmarked feeds inside Spreed.
