MyAKA: Add A Second Alias Number To Hide Your Real Mobile Number

Our mobile number is an extension of us. Anyone can find us, chat with us, and call us. It is part of our identity. However, there are times when we just want to close off the pipe and protect our mobile number. Numerous tools let you store virtual versions of your contacts’ information. Most of these apps offer an extensive set of features that for some computer users can become a bit too complicated. If you are looking for an extremely simple desktop app to save contacts’ information, check out a tool called FX Contacts.

FX Contacts is a free to use desktop application that is based on Adobe AIR thus compatible with multiple operating systems. The app lets you save new contacts by entering their full name, phone number, address, email address, and date of birth. FriendsToGmail: Easily Import Facebook Contacts To Gmail

There are plenty of reasons why you would want to see information about your Facebook friends on Google. Whatever your reason, Friends To Gmail is a neat little tool that helps you import information about all your Facebook friends to your Google Contacts. It does so by allowing you to download an organized CSV file for all your Facebook friends including information such as birthdays, location and other profile informaiton.

That downloaded CSV can then be imported to your Google Contacts to replicate the information. Note though, that it does not import email addresses or phone numbers as Facebook doesn’t allow developers access to that information. It is a great tool if you want to manage your social network from Google apps as well, for example viewing your friends’ birthdays on Google Calendar.

Writethat.Name: Keeps Your Google Contacts Updated

Writethat.name is an interesting service that aims to keep your Google/Gmail contacts in order by updating them with new address book information such as phone numbers or mailing addresses for existing contacts. It automatically extracts the email signature of senders and then runs them against existing contacts. If a change is needed, it updates the corresponding contact accordingly.

If you select auto-update, everything is done behind the scenes. Otherwise, it will send an email report at the end of the day for you to review. Once reviewed, you can hit the “Check” button and it’ll then update the information.

The service uses OAuth and OpenID to connect to your Google account and never deletes any of your data. It is currently free while in beta, and expects to charge $3 per month or $20 per year after the beta period.

Contacts: Brings Address Book To Firefox

There are thousands of desktop and cloud-based apps that let you manage your list of contacts. However, what can be better than managing them through the tool you use the most – your browser. Mozilla has just introduced an experimental add-on that lets you manage contacts from within your Firefox browser.

You can import contacts from a desktop address book, Twitter, Gmail or Mac OS X. To access the list of contacts simply go to Tools in your browser menu and choose Contacts. Many webpages can try to access your contacts and you will be able to grant/deny access to them.

Another great feature Contacts offers is the ability to auto-complete email addresses on any website right from your contacts list. You can empty your address book at any time, however, there doesn’t seem to be a function to edit or delete your contacts.

Twit2Tel: Make Phone Calls To Ayone On Twitter

Social networking sites like Twitter are convenient and effective communication tools. However, messaging in Twitter doesn’t quite capture the depth of a regular phone call. Twit2Tel is a Twitter-based app that integrates your account with your phone so that you can call your Twitter contacts or leave voicemail messages for free.

This app brings the best of both worlds by letting you call and connect with your Twitter friends without having to know their phone number.

To use this app you need to allow Twit2Tel to access your Twitter account. Then enter your country code and phone number. To call a particular contact, go to your Twitter page and post the command “@twit2tel call “ or you can just go to the Twit2Tel homepage and enter the username of the contact that you want to call. Twit2Tel will contact your phone number and connect you to that user (if he/she has a Twit2Tel account).

Twit2Tel’s service allows you to talk for up to four minutes for free. You can also add credits to your account to remove ads and call length limit.
