Fav-Links: A Beautiful Way To Organize Your Bookmarks

Organizing bookmarks is big business. There are literally hundreds of services out there that want to help you keep your bookmarks neat and tidy. The problem is, most of these are installed to your browser, and therefore, only work on that specific browser. Fav-Links is different, because it works with a web app and a Windows-based app, so it works regardless of what browser you are using.

Fav-Links offers a very elegant bookmark solution that is easy to use. Once you install the program, a small icon will appear on your screen. You simply click and drag the URL you want to add to the icon and it will add it to your bookmarks. You can add a custom screenshot to the bookmark, so it looks exactly as you want. Once you have something in your bookmarks, they make it easy to find them with their handy category view. If you want to see all your sports websites, for example, they make it easy.

In addition to the category view, they also have a search function that allows you to quickly find exactly what you need. As of this writing, the web app is not available. Don’t worry though, the Windows app is very small, so it won’t take up a lot of memory on your computer. To access your bookmarks, you simple press Q+A on your keyboard.

Convert bookmarklet to Chrome extension is a pretty self-explanatory name. Yes, the tool helps you convert a bookmarklet to an extension for Chrome is a simple drag and drop way. Well, that’s a part of the process. You do need to follow some steps which involve extracting the extension file and then loading it on Chrome through the Developer mode in Extension Settings. But it’s all very easy and neatly explained step-wise on the homepage of the tool.

The tool was created by Peter Legierski when he found that the existing methods of converting bookmarklets to extensions did not yield the desired result. If you frequently use a lot of bookmarklets then you might consider going this route and reduce some bookmarklet clutter on your Chrome toolbar.

Miitla is an online bookmarking service that helps you bookmark webpages you want to save for referencing later. It makes things easy with the help of its bookmarklet. Hit the bookmarklet and it’ll pull up information from the page like its title and description automatically. You can drag and drop categories or labels onto your bookmarks on its web based dashboard. You may also add notes to the bookmarks by selecting text on the page before clicking the Miitla bookmarklet.

Lstack is a bookmarking tool that lets you bookmark webpages you find interesting while browsing the web. It offers a bookmarklet that should work on Firefox and Chrome, and you may also email it links from your computer or phone to save items to your list.

What differentiates it from other such tools out there is a feature called smart tags. Examples: source:makeuseof.com, score:2.9, price:170 USD etc etc. This could prove to be pretty useful when it comes to filtering a huge collection of bookmarks.

Another aspect of this tool is that your bookmarks are private by default unlike most of the other such services where the default mode is public mode. So you might want to use this if you are tired of selecting the private mode frequently while saving items.

Mind IT: An Innovative Way To Bookmark Webpages

Mind IT is an online bookmarking tool, which goes a little beyond your default bookmarking tool. Mind IT organizes bookmarks in a more graphical, mind-map like manner.

Mind IT is great when you are researching something and want to link up bookmarks together to know what is linked to what. Currently, the tool allows up to 25 ‘LinkMaps’ to be created – the visual representation that Mind IT creates is called a ‘LinkMap’.

Marker.To: Highlight Any Text On A Webpage & Share

When we are studying a book or preparing for exams, we tend to highlight important points to remember about different topics. Think of a situation when you’re reading something on the Internet and you want to jot down points. You can save them in Notepad or write it by hand which many of you may not like. To help you highlight important stuff while browsing is a handy extension known as Marker.to.

With Marker.to, you can highlight important information on any website you are browsing. Snip.it: Collect & Share Link Bundles Online

There are a few services that let you create a bundle of links easily. However, very few of them actually help you curate those links for future reference or for more intelligent sharing. Snip.it is a new tool that aims at getting that done. It’s in beta but you can sign up using Facebook. It helps you create link collections and share them with friends.

The interface is nice and easy to use. Links can be “snipped” using their bookmarklet, entering the URL directly on their toolbar or by adding snip.it/ before any URL.

How this service stands out among the many other bookmarking services out there is something that you’ll need to figure out depending upon how you bookmark URLs. This is more like creating specific link collections, centered around an event, a topic or an interest.

You create an account on the site by signing in through your Twitter account. Pleeq: Nice Photo Bookmarking Tool

You will find numerous web services that let you bookmark webpages. But what if you want to save image URLs? Surely bookmarking an entire webpage only for an image it contains would be inconvenient and result in cluttered bookmarks. To resolve this issue you can use a web service called Pleeq.

Pleeq is a free to use web service that helps you bookmark online images. You start using the site by creating an account and then clicking on the activation link that is emailed to you. Next you drag Pleeq’s bookmarklet onto your browser’s bookmarks toolbar. Now whenever you are on the webpage of an image you would like to bookmark, simply click on the Pleeq bookmarklet and then click on the image. The image’s original URL will be saved in your Pleeq account and you will be able to add tags to the image.

To view your “Pleeqed” images you can visit your dashboard any time.
