Pew Internet Project is one of the most popular free public research organizations that collects and monitors data on Internet usage and trends in US that impact communities and every day aspects of our life.

To put it simply, it measures things like how many teens (12-18) have a Facebook profile, or how many adults between 18-35 have a broadband connection, who buy more online: women or men, what percentage of patients check for health on Internet, the actual number of adults playing video games and so on.

It’s one of the biggest free public research sources whose findings and reports are heavily cited by most mainstream publications and technology blogs all accross the web. All of their content is available online or downloadable in PDF format for free from their site, for personal non-commercial use. Users can browse reports by type and by publication year.

They have their own experts for different technology topics (social networking, broadband, web 2.0) whom you can contact by email, to ask questions or inquire about posted reports.

Features:

Non-profit free public research source for technology trends in US.

Focuses on how internet affects people lives.

View all the content (reports, statistics, presentations) for free online or download in PDF format. For personal use only.

Whenever someone opens up the Task Manager on their Windows computer, they see a mass of processes. The confusing part is that all the processes have weird names and though most of the running processes are safe, some of the processes may be viruses or spyware. TaskList is a very handy resource that can help you to identify processes in task manager and whether or not it’s safe to delete or keep them.

Just type in the name of the process you’re wondering about, and TaskList should present you with a description of the file, where it came from, and some general information about how safe it is. Though it may not be 100% accurate, it’s still a very reliable source to see what a process does. A word of caution though: TaskList does seem to link to a program called Easy SpyRemover, which is a known rogue software. So, just use TaskList as a resource and use a tool other than Easy SpyRemover to get rid of a virus if you find one.

<

Features:

Helps you to find out what processes in task manager mean.

Search over 18,000 tasks and processes.

Find tasks alphabetically.

Also use the TaskList Attachment list to search a number of e-mail attachments.

View description of process as well as recommendations on what actions to take.

Keep your computer safe and virus free.

Did you ever try changing settings on some gadget but couldn’t do it because it required some password you had never set up. That’s exactly what CIRT.net can help you with.

If you ever need a default password for a system or software try searching for it on CIRT. It can be a username and password for your linksys or netgear router, mobile phone, PC or laptop BIOS, printer etc.

The site lists over 1700 passwords for products from nearly 400 manufacturers. If you can’t find the password here I’d recommend calling the tech support.
