CardPool: Sell unwanted gift cards, buy gift cards on the cheap

Gift cards are frequently better to give than to recieve. The giver doesn’t have to think too much about the recipient’s preferences, but the receiver is stuck with cash only usable in a single retail outlet. If you’ve got a gift card to a store you’re not really interested in shopping at you know what I’m talking about.

CardPool.com gives recipients of unwanted gift cards an opportunity to sell unwanted cards for cash, without the hassle of listing it on eBay. Simply fill out the form explaining which store the gift card works at, how much it is worth and when it expires. CardPool will pay you within 24 hours of receiving the gift card, turning your gift card into cash you can spend anywhere. Of course, you won’t get the full value of the card: CardPool offers different rates for different goods depending on demand. But it’s better than keeping a card you’ll never use in your sock drawer for all eternity.

If you don’t have any gift cards, but are looking to save money on an upcoming purchase, you can also purchase the gift cards others sold. All the cards listed on the site come with discounts, sometimes as high as ten percent, so if you’ve got an upcoming purchase this is a chance for a discount.

So far the best thing I’ve noticed about cardpool is that it is very simple to use. It’s very easy to buy and sell the gift cards.

Everything about the site is laid out cleanly (the terms and guarantees, etc). So it’s very easy to navigate around and find what I’m looking for.

There’s a local site here in St. Louis that does half price gift cards and gift certificates. They focus on local businesses so it’s useless for people anywhere else though.
