ADrive : 50GB of Free Online Storage

Newly launched online file storage, sharing and backup service. ADrive lets you upload, organize and share (optional) up to 50 GB of data (music, video, photos, documents, etc.) in one place.

ADrive: Free Online Storage and Sharing

Feature Overview

  • Store, share and manage up to 50 GB of files online.
  • Organize files into folders and share folders with others.
  • No limitation on single file size (this is my assumption as there is no info that would suggest otherwise).
  • File Manager: Move files between folders, rename folders/files, delete files, etc.
  • Download stored files back to PC.
  • Coming soon: Premium accounts with even more options.

Hmm. Their site lists SSL and encryption of the data as both “coming soon”. So that means, for now, that the data one sends up there is open both on transmission and as stored. Kind of interesting to think that services like this are springing up, and do seem so compelling, yet if people upload personal data there, they need to be quite trusting of the vendors (and their eimployees). I know some swear by these kind of services, and they do have their value, but people should always look for security as a first consideration, unless they know that what they’re sharing is entirely uninteresting to prying eyes.

Still, as always, thanks MUO folks. Your site is AWESOME and I tell people about it all the time–in fact blogged about it recently.

    Good point

I agree, they surely do look very compelling. They also tend to guarantee 100% security. The way I see it, someone should use such services only for sharing files that has no significant value. Or as you you pointed out “entirely uninteresting to prying eyes”. As for dealing with sensitive data, I would go with ones that are bigger and are specifically aimed at secure online backup/storage. I love the 50GB free storage and ADrive is very convenient for me to share large files among my classmates.
