Why do executable setup and application files (.exe) not run from flash drive?

Executable setup or application files with .exe extensions do not run from my Kingston DataTraveler 101 32GB flash drive. However, when I copy an executable file to my hard drive, I am able to run it.

Please identify the problem and help me troubleshooting or finding a solution to this.

Hello, "secpol.msc" only works with computers that have the pro versions of windows.  If you are using the starter/home editions it will give you an error.

@ha14, it's not working. There's an error: Windows cannot find 'secpol.msc2'.

He actually meant "secpol.msc" (without quotes). Opens Local Security Settings alright. I learnt something new today!

Whenever a silly problem like this occurs, it usually down to some kind of virus scanner / security software - such as Norton. Check the security settings, then give up frustrated becuase it a worthless piece of software, and uninstall it.

    1. From the start menu, go to the RUN command window and enter secpol.msc
In the Local Security Settings window, select Software Restrictions Policies,
you will notice on the right pane if there are  policies defined. Then if yes so remove the one concerning your problem and reboot windows.

Also check your security sometime they will block running from USB key.
