Is it possible to output a signal, lets say playing a movie on my PC, and connecting something straight to the DVD/VCR to watch on the television?

Hello, it would help if you describe what kind of connectors you have available in your TV, computer and DVD/VCR.  As an example, it you have a TV that only has composite and s-video connectors, you can use something like this.

As an extreme example.  This example, covers the components you mentioned.  It gets easier if you are only trying to go from computer to TV.
