November 9, 2012Open Task Manager and select the Services tab. Scroll down to the wuauserv entry and ensure it is running. If it is not running, you can right-click on it and select Start service. If it fails to start, you will need to research (or report back here with) the error it returns.

I restarted and BUM windows update now working.
This is the link: http://jndm.net/2011/09/28/how-to-fix-windows-update-cannot-currently-check-for-updates-because-the-service-is-not-running/
THANKS TO ALL
Thats great but i believe if you do delete locate C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ folder and delete all its content (i deletet only Data Logs folder) then if you open Windows update you will not see history of updates.

November 10, 2012In Windows 7 access services by running services.msc and check that following services are started : 1) Windows Update 2) Remote Procedure Call (RPC) 3) DCOM Server Process Launcher and 4) RPC Endpoint Mapper. if all are started. stop Windows Update service by double clicking on it, click Stop button and OK button. In windows explorer goto c:\windows\softwaredistribution\datastore\logs\edb.log and deleate edb.log or rename it if you like. Restart windows update service and try to run Windows update.
