Why do programs hang on my PC?

I am using a handful of games programs that always seem to “hang” or “freeze” as I get to the end of the program. This is a bit frustrating, do I need more RAM? Or is something else wrong?

Thanks, everyone.

I would say you should upgrade your processor and RAM but if your proccesor is a decent one (AMD Athelon, Intel Core i5) then just go for the RAM.

Obviously, there are a lot of things that may be responsible for this:

If your computer does not have enough Memory (RAM), it will be unable to run lots of programs at once. Each program uses some amount of memory, Certain programs are reputed to be Memory HOGS. e.g. Photoshop, MS Office, etc.

To improve performance, you can either

    Upgrade RAM.
    Terminate unnecessary Background Processes.

To upgrade RAM, your motherboard must have a free slot to insert a module{most modern motherboards do, don't worry} If you decide to upgrade your PC, Good!! Consult a tech if you are a true layman. Or...you can try Googling good PC Upgrade guides.

    OR...

The problem may be with the application. Some files may be corrupted. Try a reinstall or if you're using a Windows, the Registry tends to disintegrate after a few years of use. :D You'll need a format if every app hangs or dies on you.

That's the best I can come up with. Peace.

We really do need more information to fully answer your question.

If it's playing the games, it is quite possible your system does not meet the games requirements, but I would think that it would not run at all if that were the case. It is also possible the installation media or files you are using are corrupt and the games are not installing correctly.

If it's during the install itself it could be you are missing some required files such as the .NET framework or again the installation files themselves could be corrupted.

"its due to the power supply or smps.. wen it runs too much it gets slower n slower... n hangs our PC" n wen u hav a graphic card instaltd n u run more than 2 o 3 hrs pc will start slowing down many process..

hope this gives u a clue...

It may be that either you don't have enough RAM or Graphics. Also check you have latest Direct X version.

So the games hang as you get to the end of them, as people have stated might be a combination of one or a few things, we need you specs to advise you further.

If its freezing or hanging it might be hardware related
if you get error messages reply the exact error message

Firstly, kindly provide full system specifications like RAM,HDD,graphics card etc..This can be done using Speccy software.

Then also observe if there is a rise in temperature when your games hang. You can have a look at these temperatures in Speccy. Also,if you fan makes much noise then you need to clean out the internals for dust and apply a high quality heat paste if it still persists.

What we need is details of exactly what is happening. There is just too many parameters to guess at.

Check for the minimum system requirement of those games if your system don't meet them then they will usually hang if your system meets the requirement then close down the background applications which you might not require while playing game and then try

It could either be hardware or software problem. The game programs is likely using a lot of CPU Usage and when it dosnt get the amount of hardware requirements it wants. it tends to hang or Freeze.

Might not be a problem with RAM alone. It could possibly be Graphics card and CPU.

What are you doing when it hangs? Are you installing the game? Are you loading it to play? Are you done with a playing session?

do you mean installation do not proceed to complete, are you getting error messages?
