because you have received and sent e-mails from and to those old e-mail addresses. if you delete all e-mails related to those e-mail addresses you wont see them when you want to send or forward any e-mail.

Are you using an email client? Also make sure you remove all the contacts completely also emails as suggested by Ravi . They may say they are removed, but theres always traces of them

Ravi is correct – all past email addresses you ever corresponded with are retained so long as the email is in your inbox. This may be a sign that it’s time to do some inbox housecleaning and delete all of those old emails? :-)

Basically all email programs have several sources for contacts that mostly includes:
- the (actual) contact list/database
- old emails (‘from’ and ‘to’ headers)
- a list of previous recipients

Depending on the program you are using and the list the contact is in steps to remove the recipient differ.

all below are correct.. if you are using outlook, delete outlook.nk2 file.. it will delete all the cached mail address that you sent / receive mails to and from
