After I plug the external hard *My book essential 1TB* it gives me the unlock screen, after unlocking it, it seems not to show up, and it takes like forever to load, and in the end the computer recognize the device as cd drive.
please help me, you know how it feels to lose all ur archive :(, I tried on different PC, and different USB, as well different OS and still facing the same problem.

I know the MyBook Essentials 1TB drive well. They do seem to have their issues. I had one that would not read correctly and used a Linux boot CD to fix it recently. I think it was Parted Magic. It had some options to work with the drive and get it to be seen. I think I started in the file manager and then moved on to other tools to finish the job. I can check on this next week.

Another thing it could be as simple as a bad cable. Those mini USB cables are notorious for going bad. Or working on one drive and not another. That was the worst USB configuration ever. I am glad the micro USB mostly replaced it as it seems much more robust.

Anyway good luck getting it back up. If worst comes to worst you could always take the drive apart and hook it up internally to a SATA port in your computer as that would get you back in. Last resort of course but it is always an option if all else fails.

    try the following:
see if this microsoft solution can help
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-solving-problems-with-USB-devices

if you tried on different pc maybe is the My book essential, perhaps you need to format (if you do not have important files).
