Why can’t I install this Windows security fix and why are browsers misbehaving?

I tried to install KB2732487 but it always shows me a 8024200D error and I am also having problems while browsing. All browsers suddenly stop working and a Windows message box appears saying end task.

While other programs work well and my computer is fast, browsers don’t tend to work well.

Asus laptop,
Windows 7 64-bit SP1
AMD A8 4500
4GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7640g & 7450m dual-graphics.

Please help me with this!

Did you try to update Java? Does it happen when you use other browsers?

You can try solving it using the online Fix-It center.
    http://fixitcenter.support.microsoft.com/Portal/FindSolutions

The "all-around" Microsoft Fix-It for Windows Update issues
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

If that doesn't work I suggest au_check which is an unofficial support tool from Microsoft Support that fixes pretty much all Windows Update issues.

    * It is suggested to turn off all third-party Anti Virus or Firewalls but it's reported to work e.g. with Avira still being active. So feel free to scan it.

You need to re install your browsers. Maybe update your .net framework and visual c++. Maybe your windows or registries might be corrupted if you have messed with it or maybe you have some viruses or Trojans.

Which are the fixits you have tried?

    Method 1:
    Refer the site:
Error 8024200D can mean that an update did not finish downloading or installing.
    Refer the site:
    Windows Update error 8024200d
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Windows-Update-error-8024200d

    Method 2: Disable antivirus software
    Refer the site:
    Disable antivirus software
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 3:
    Refer the site:
“Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2”
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997

Note: While checking a drive for errors, if bad sectors are found then the system tries to repair the sector. Any data available might be lost. Hence take a backup of data.
