Why can’t I connect to Google Play?
Question by Arsenio van Altena /

I want to login to the Google Play store on my tablet, but it keeps saying that my device can’t connect to a Google server? My Wi-Fi connection has max bars, so can anyone tell me what to do? I’ve tried rebooting, removing accounts from my tablet, setting it to factory defaults, etc.

I assume the wifi router is yours? Do you have MAC address filtering enabled? If so you need to make sure the MAC address of your tablet is enabled in the router. If not it will connect and show full bars but it won't be able to make any internet connections. You can use an app Network Info II as seen at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aws.apps.networkInfoIi or maybe even better Fing as seen at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.overlook.android.fing The nice thing about Fing is it scans your whole wireless network and shows you each device connected along with Mac address. However if Mac address filtering is enabled and you are getting no connection it won't show anything other than your device. It is also great for making sure no one is connecting to your router you don't want to. Also make sure your router does not use a default password as this will make it so any neighbor could break in and change the settings. If that happens you will have to reset the router and reset all the settings. Good luck.

I have had the same issue on my older phones. No matter what you try, the Play Store will not open properly, or so it seems. I had to download an updated version of Play Services in order to get it working again. Try the updated Play Store from here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/05/29/download-latest-google-play-store-4-1-10/ and install it. No guarantees that it will work as I do not have any specifics on your device like model and version, but I think it might work. Cheers.
