Why am I seeing apps on my Facebook account that I never use?

Sukhpreet Singh asks:

Every time I log into my account, two applications that I never use shown in app category. They are Facebook messenger for Android and Facebook messenger for iPhone. Here is a screenshot.

Even when I remove these apps, after few seconds they come back. For security purposes I changed my password and logged out from every other device, except my laptop {using Facebook feature}.

Please help!

Do you have an Android or iOS device? It seems like a spammy app or something, since theres no Icon. I could be wrong though.

https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=applications

And click more info under the messenger app.

Review any other apps, or facebook fan pages, as certain spammy fanpages automatically join other spammy fanpages or apps.

Enable HTTPS encryption in the facebook security settings.

Also add extra security to your facebook, that will email you each time your account is logged in.

Good luck. Feel free to follow up :)

Same question as Ryan – have you ever installed these on your mobile? Just because your remove them when you’re logged into your Facebook account via desktop, if your mobile phone is still making use of the app (because you gave it authorization), then it’ll show up.

If you haven’t used these apps via your mobile, then Ryan’s suggestion for added security where you get an email whenever your account is logged into is an excellent suggestion.

I recently noticed this issue, too. I have an Android phone, so I wasn’t particularly concerned about it, but I was curious as to why the iPhone one is showing up on my account. When I remove it from my apps, it reappears. Secure browsing and login notifications are enabled, and I haven’t noticed anything odd there. I’m wondering if it has something to do with friends who use iPhones — like if I reply to their iPhone-made posts, in order to display those things on my timeline, Facebook needs my account to allow access to the iPhone app. At the moment, something along those lines is my best guess, and if it’s on the right track, it’s probably nothing to really worry about. Still, it would be nice to get a more definitive answer. Hopefully one will appear here; I’d like to know, too. Thanks.

Whenever you login from any iOS device or Android device the FB itself records each and every login you make and shows up in your app list. This is what i’ve observed.

I stopped using from my windows mobile.. and it never showed up and i’ve deleted all saved devices from where i’ve logged in.

Here is the end of confusion:

1)
https://www.facebook.com/bookmarks/apps

The link above, shows facebook camera, android messenger, iphone messenger in the list of so called “used” apps with the time of usage on your profile.
(which is an extended list of what you see on your homepage under app section.)

You cant remove them, even if you click on remove option.

They will be there even if you never used them or don’t have an apple or android device and will be shown as “used more than a month ago”

2) But You will not see these apps in your list of apps you have actually allowed on your profile… in this link :
https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=applications

This is confirmed by different users and you can test it on your account also.
This is just another facebook confusion, don’t worry u r safe.

1. Upload pics on lulzimg or photobucket or any direct image hosting sites.. :p
2. You sometimes click on a link from your friend that subscribes you automatically to those spam apps.
On your wall, to your left should be the Apps section.
Hover and click on more.

Now click on the pencil of the app you want removed, click on remove app, click remove.
if it appears again, mail the facebook guys to block that app for you.

Any apps that you have ever inadvertently clicked on or your friends have used or clicked on will show up on your news feed.

For best results, you need to do the following ON FACEBOOK from a web browser, not your phone app:

1. Click the settings arrow – the small white down arrow icon on the far right of the blue bar at the top of the page.

2. Select PRIVACY SETTINGS

3. Select the “Apps, Games and Websites” option

4. “Apps you use” is how you are configured to communicate or connect with every app or game on facebook you have ever acknowledged in any way.

5. EDIT and disable any and all apps you no longer wish to be involved with or receive info from…

6. You can click the “X” or Edit
—— if you Edit, you may keep a suspended connection and eventually return and use that app or you can simply Turn Off notifications

This is also how you filter postings from some apps to just family or just close friends or just coworkers, or whatever lists of friend categories you have…

Hope this helps!
