Which offline text to speech conversion software works well with Microsoft Windows applications?

Which offline text to speech conversion software works well with microsoft windows applications? For windows 7, it should preferably work even with Windows Notepad.

    Thanks. Yes i understand that it would work even when not online, but would it work within the framework of microsoft office applications like word, excel, notepad? If not, then would the inbuilt microsoft speech recognition software be used in the same way as asked?

    also the chrome extension for voice to text for gmail does not show the microphone symbol in gmail compose window

    - It works on long texts and it is offline, so it can be faster

      try this?
      To change the system default native voice, please go to
      windows for example:
      Choose Start?Control Panel?Ease of Access?Text to Speech.
      Click the Text to Speech tab and choose your options.
