Where can I go to download Windows CE 6.0 applications?

Tom Red asks:

I have a Wespro Windows CE device with these specs:

CPU: VIA 8650, 600MHz,
Screen: 7″ TFT, 800 by 480
RAM: 256MB DDR3
Network: 802.11b/g.
Operating System: Windows CE 6.0 Build 3122

I am looking for trusted sites to download software like Yahoo Messenger and that can be installed on it. I have tried installing software but it keeps telling me that they are not Windows CE applications. Also can I put a clean install of XP onto the device?

Browser: Chrome 19
System: Windows 7

Have you tried these:

http://www.hpc.net/
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/1509/topic.html
http://www.cnet.com/topic-software/microsoft-windows-ce.html
http://www.pda-archives.com/wince/1.htm

Of course, I got these with a search, so do dive into them and browse in more detail. I won’t be able to help you with the second part of your question though I think that you should check the system requirements as Win XP is a much larger OS than CE. Plus, CE is an embedded OS isn’t it?

I’m getting 2 Sylvania “Smartbooks” this week, running Windows CE 6.0. They are running VIA chips, which are ARM chips, which are not Pentium compatable, which means that the answer to your second question should be, “No.”

The links that the first responder will come in handy for the smartbook that I give to my mother, while I use the one that I am keeping to explore the vast open-source goodness known as Debian GNU/Linux and their vast repository of software that runs on ARM processors. I’m just waiting for delivery, so I can see if I can use a CD or if I have to use a USB drive.
