Western Digital is #1 Best Brand
The brands I’ve had most luck with overall are Seagate and Western Digital (In that order).
For external only, I’ve also had a SimpleTech drive for about 4 years and it’s been heavily abused almost daily. It still performs great and runs quiet and cool. I’m just not sure what brand of drive it actually uses, though.
