What free video editing software could handle football footage?

I officiate high school (American) football. The group I work with would like to make some training tapes. We get game video from coaches. I would like to edit this video including the ability to highlight players, add arrows to the video and use slow motion. Hopefully it will be something that the learning curve isn’t to steep. I have looked around but haven’t found anything that I can do this with. Any thoughts?

    If you want some good effects and that to be free too,then lightworks would be better.It also has its some set of video tutorials which could be a learning aid to you.

    But keep in mind that all free video editors are quite simple and do not include many editing tools and effects.
    I recommend to purchase an inexpensive video editor, such as Sony Movie Studio or Magix Movie Edit Pro.
