What caused my memory card to suddenly stop working and how can I recover?

Suddenly my memory card in my phone stopped being read. I didn’t do anything to cause this, so I then tried it in another phone which also wouldn’t read the card.

I tried another memory card in my phone which worked fine, so the problem must be with the card. It’s a Transcend Class 4 16GB memory card – what can I do to recover and get it working again?

Ok, you can try use a third party software called MiniTool Power Data Recovery to recover your data on the memory card. More info on: http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-data-recovery-file-undelete-utility.htm

This looks to be the best article on the subject, http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Data_Recovery, but it also probably requires expert skills. The article recommends against using ChkDsk but there is also a makeuseof article describing a successful use of that Windows command to recover files from a USB memory stick. So get a micro card to USB reader if you don't have one and try it maybe first: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-recover-data-from-a-corrupt-memory-card-or-usb-drive/.

insert the memory card to pc, see if it is recognized, if not do the following to check if bios will recognize it

Start > Run > type cmd, right click and choose run as administratot
    type: diskpart
    type: list volume
check if your memory card will be there

Can you put it in a computer and see if it works? Also, microSD cards have a finite lifetime. It might jsut be worn out.
