I was wondering if anyone knows of a good free backup software that supports tape drive backup?

You can buy BackupAssist from Dell Direct. None of these options have free solutions for tape backup on Windows Server.

Out of all of these options, there isn't one that is free for windows server 2008. You have to pay for tape support for any windows server.

Thank you for the replies. I will look into these now. I am about to switch over to a new server here at work and BACKUPASSIST charged me $250 for the software and then said for tape support I will need to fork over another $130. Irritated at this point!

Most drives ship with software that has been optimized for the specific device. Some other options are Amanda, EaseUS Todo Backup and Bacula.
