How do I watch movies from my external hard drive on an old TV?

T asks:

I have an old-fashioned TV and a 250 GB hard drive. How can I play the movies on my TV? It’s not like I can just connect via USB or something.

You connect a computer to the TV instead, and use that to read the files. A multifunction media player (a lot of DVD players do mp3/avis too) may also work, but they tend to be specific about their filetypes. Failing that, an Xbox or PS3 would also do the job.

If the External HDD is in NTFS (like most of them are when bought), then you can give up on the PS3 at least, since (I’m pretty sure) it doesn’t support NTFS file system. Otherwise, like mentioned above. Connect through a computer/DVD (I know some the “boxes” every phone company sells now a day, can play most file types)
