MICHAELA asks:
I have an external hard drive with AVI files on it and I’d like to play them on my TV. I don’t have a USB socket on the back of my TV or my surround sound system. Will the video work if I buy a USB to Scart cable.

No, SCART is just just AV, it will not recognized your hard drive.
You will need either a PC or a TV media player to connect to your TV.
The easiest and cheapest is probably this Diamond Media Player, http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Media-Wonder-Mini-Player/dp/B003FZBLUK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1324975574&sr=8-5 , That will player media files from your Hard drive.
Hello, usually scart to USB cables can be used if you want to record and backup content from analog devices. I do not think It would recognize and external drive.
DO you have HDMI?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
you should be able to stream to it using UPnP/DLNA
connect your computer to the TV and use it to play your media. http://www.ehow.com/how_4457043_connect-pc-hdmi-tv.html
