How can I make USB tethering work on my Sony Ericsson Ray mobile phone?

Ashish Singh asks:

About 1 month ago I accessed internet from PC to my Samsung Note using USB tethering. All was fine.

Today, I have a Sony Ericsson RAY mobile and while doing the same I am having problem. When I choose USB tethering in my mobile phone, I can’t even access internet on my laptop.

Please tell me the way to do this right.

That “1. Connect phone and computer
Connect the data cable to the phone socket and to your computer’s USB port.
2. Find “Tethering & portable hotspot”
Press the menu icon.
Press Settings.
Press Wireless & networks.
Press Tethering & portable hotspot.
3. Establish connection
Press USB tethering to turn on the function.
When the box next to the menu item is ticked (V), the function is turned on.
Press OK.
An internet connection from your computer via your phone is automatically established.
When the connection is established, you can access the internet from your computer”

If there is a problem with your cell account and USB tethering is not available that way, you should look into PDAnet at http://junefabrics.com/android/ or just get it from the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pn.helper&hl=en (It says it’s not compatible with my EVO 4G but it is)

It will place the app on your phone and instruct you on how to install the client on your computer.

I use it all the time. Especially on long road trips. My girlfriend plays World of Warcraft tethered to my phone while driving down the highway, without a problem.
