How can I upload videos from my Sony VX2000 to my MacBook Pro?

I have a Sony DCR-VX2000 camera. I also bought a Firewire/USB cable to upload my videos to my MacBook Pro. But when I plug it in, I can’t find the folder or file with my videos in it. I have also tried going into iMovie and clicked on import, but have had no luck. What is wrong?

try image capture, to move the movie from the camera to the desktop, and then import it from there.
