Can I update my unconnected ‘MyTouch LG from T-Mobile’ with just WiFi?

I bought a MyTouch LG from T-Mobile from my friend and it’s not connected yet. Am I still able to update its software with just WiFi or does it need to be connected?

Of course you can use wi-fi to update, but before you do update, you need to setup your gmail account in your phone, since it is used to access the android market.
