How can I update the software on my Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660?

Esteban Villegas asks:

I have a Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660 and I cant find a way to update Android from 2.2.1 to 2.3.6. Can anyone help me do this?

Have you tried the Kies software on your computer to try to update? You can get the latest version here as the official Samsung site is down for Macs: http://androidistic.com/1571/download-new-version-kiesmac_1-3-0-12041_6-for-mac-os-x-and-lion/

Here is how to use Kies to update (it says for the Ace, but is similar for most Samsung phones): http://acetips.wordpress.com/2011/09/24/upgrade-ace-kies/

You can also update your phone over the air by going to Settings–> About phone –> Update.

All the apps and settings gets backed up during update process and it works as I’d also tried it out.

The best way to update your phone is to use native Samsung update utility Kies. Download the latest Kies from here: http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
You might have to choose UK for your country, as the phone isn’t supported in all countries. Follow this tutorial on Firmware Update: http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIESTUTORIAL/JSP

Use PC suite software that comes with your phone.If you had mentioned the phone model or the OS inside it,you could had got specific answer.
