Maxine asks:
When I purchased my Dell Inspiron 17 running Windows 7, I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials because #1 it was free & #2 great reviews. The laptop came with Windows Defender. May I uninstall Windows Defender or should I keep it?

December 27, 2010Windows Defender can only be uninstalled when using Windows XP.
For both Windows Vista and Windows 7 you can only disable the Windows Defender Service which is automatically done by the Microsoft Security Essentials installation.
The core of Defender is built into the operating system. Removing it could result in problems.
