How can I turn a regular hard drive into an external USB hard drive?

I have a 500 GB Western digital hard disk. Now I want to use it as external USB disk on my computer. How can I do that. Please tell any way.

    by plugging your internal drive into a hard drive “enclosure,” and then connecting it to your PC using a standard USB or FireWire (IEEE 1394) connection.

    Be sure it has the interface you expect not to find out that it has a SATA interface, rather than the expected IDE interface

    Hello, the best way is by getting an enclosure.  They are not that expensive.  Make sure that the enclosure has the right connectors compatible with your hard drive.  Most enclosure have SATA and IDE connectors by default.  Also make sure that your enclosure is for 3.5 drives.  As examples, you could get something like the following:

    3.5 enclosure with SATA/IDE connectors:
