How do you turn off ‘read only’ in OpenOffice Writer?

Must turn in college paper Sunday online. When I tried to make corrections, will not let me, says read only. I’m in real trouble, if I can’t turn off ‘read only’ setting. Thanks!

FYI - If the document was marked read only or protected in another program (such as MS Word), then you will not be able to modify these in OO, at least as far as I can tell. I ended up having to copy and past the document contents into a new blank OO document, then all security and protect options are functional.

Open the document, then in Writer go to File -> Properties -> "General" Tab and uncheck "Open file read-only". If it's not in the "General" tab, it may be under "security". I'm using LibreOffice which is very similar, but not exact.
