Make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers. Also check in the device manager to make sure that all hardware devices are working properly. It is not unknown for bits of hardware (can be a minor component, such as a USB controller or an unused modem) to fail, and this can slow the system right down.

You can also speed up the system by defragmenting and optimising the hard disc (I like MyDefrag for this, as it does an excellent job). However, on a newly installed system this is likely to improve performance only moderately.

Check your rams, remove them and clean them.
Uninstall unused programs, update your computer regularly, update obsolete
    or old programs.

    Run Disk Cleanup - Start> All Programs>
    Accessories> System Tools> Disk Cleanup

Run Disk Defragmenter - Start> All
    Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Deframenter
