How can I speed up Xubuntu 11.04 on a netbook?

UUUnicorn asks:

Are there any tips and/or tweaks for speeding up Xubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal on a MSI Wind u100-432US netbook? Thank you very much.

Probably the cheapest way to speed everything up is to buy more RAM and install it on your netbook. Having said that, try to avoid bigger programs like Open Office. If that doesn’t work, try Lubuntu instead:

    It’s lighter than Xubuntu.

Look in “dmesg” and see what services are starting and what services you can
    eliminate

    Boot-Up Manager

    - adding the option “startpar” in /etc/init.d/rc
    - adding ureadaheah (sudo apt-get install ureadahead), the first startup will be slower but the others will be faster

I’ve tried Lubuntu 11.10, but the audio doesn’t work.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, I’d very much appreciate them. Thank you.

Try Debian Xfce, it’s a way more stable and it use half memory than Xubuntu…
