Why does one specific .avi file not open with Subtitle Workshop 2.51?

I’ve been using Subtitle Workshop for a few years, and it has been working perfectly for me.

But for some reason it will now not play a particular .avi file; the subtitle loads properly and I can hear the audio, but there is no video, only a black screen.

There is no problem with the codecs, since all my other .avi files open without problems. But I cannot get this video to play, not even without the subtitles.

I should point out that the video opens normally with other media players.
Has anyone else ever had a similar problem? If so, how did you solve it?

Convert the avi file to avi using format factory,

May be it will work like it worked here:

In case, if the default codec does not work, choose the codec that the other avi files have.

Hello, it is probably the .avi encoding causing this.  You could check the info about this file and compare with other ones to see if there is any difference in encoding.  Try using media info.
