My chrome browser opens with Fruumo. Weather, Time, recently visited and most visited pages plus a pleasing photo that can reflect the time of year, Fruumo is an awesome extension.

I have been using only2clicks (http://only2clicks.com) for years. I've never found anything to rival its usefulness and its ease of use.

My homepage was "Google Reader." Since Google stopped the reader I now use an alternative news reader as my homepage. Sorry Google, you lost my allegiance.

I have all my favorite sites on a Bookmarks Toolbar. My browser opens to about:blank.

    Wikipedia. E.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

In particular the News section has lots of stuff totally ignored by mainstream media.

I used to use google as my homepage, but way back when I started using Chrome, then a homepage sort of became pointless. I know exactly what pages I want to open. Most of the time, I use a blank homepage, then type in what I want. Chrome's autocomplete is scary good at knowing what pages I want to open, and anytime I want to search google, then there's no need to actually go to google.com, just type it into a new tab's searchbar.

I made a custom home page years ago that has links to the main sites that I use, if not daily than pretty often. I've updated it over the years and it's still my home page.

I usually use maps.google.com, for a while I used a blank page, a friend of mine made his own start page with links - but I know other people that use other things. I think it's really just whatever page you use the most.

I am an instagramlover, so I use my profile on Instagram as my homepage. You see all the photos you took, and it is nicely displayed.

But another idea the 'currently' extension (chrome) . I uses this option for months but I wasn't amused anymore with its layout.

I don't think there's an absolute, objective answer to that, but that said...

    • The page should be fast to load. No point in waiting for a page to load, only to then go to another page.
    • Since much of the time it is simply a point of departure, the page itself should be neutral.
    • Most browsers nowadays allow searching directly from the address bar (or the feature can be added), so searching can be done easily "from" any page.

Therefore my choices are usually: blank page, top sites, Google search page.

The home page is always "about:blank" for me.
The new tab/window page is usually the Top Sites/Speed Dial.

It depends on your interests and what you prefer to see or go to first when you open the browser. Personally, using Opera browser or Chrome browser, I go with the Speed Dial that lists my most commonly accessed websites (customizable to whichever sites you like). This way, I don't see junk or crap I don't want and can quickly click the website I want to go to.
