I am using Windows XP SP3. Today I installed KM Player and after installing files, icons where changed to KM Player’s icon.

So I want to change icon back to Windows Media Player. Please suggest any solution. Thank you.

    Go to...Start / Run...

In the Run Box...type or copy/paste...

    regsvr32 shmedia.dll

    (yes...there is a space between 2 and s)
    Press...Enter...

You should see a dialog that states:
    "DllRegisterServer in shmedia.dll succeeded"

If you want to change the icons you have to reset your default program (file association) for media files to Windows Media Player.

With the default settings you should have the option "Set Program Access and Defaults" within the Start menu. Otherwise open up Control Panel, open the "Add & Remove Programs" dialog. On the left hand side you can then find the option mentioned above.

If you want to change the icon but not the default application I suggest to follow the guide posted on How-To Geek:

    Pramod Patil,

what happened when you installed KM Player is that you allowed the player to change the file associations, so that from then on media files would be opened with KM Player instead of Windows Media Player. That is why the icon symbols changed.

If you would like to revert this, so that Windows Media Player (WMP) opens these files again, follow this guide: Set Windows Media Player 11 as your default player
