J asks:
I finally upgraded from XP to Windows 7. I was very satisfied with the Microsoft Sam voice. Egads! The only voice available in Windows 7 is horrible. How can I migrate Sam? Or if that’s not possible, how can I replace the robotic Microsoft Anna with a better (affordable) voice?

January 25, 2012There are a few more voices, but only Anna appears available in 64-bit Windows 7. If you’re using a 32-bit application, you can change the 32-bit voice using a hidden control panel.
Type “C:WindowsSysWOW64SpeechSpeechUXsapi.cpl” (without quotes) into the search box in the Start menu and press Enter — I see Microsoft Mary and Mike as options here. If you install packages of other voices, many will only be available in this window and not in the 64-bit window. I’m unaware of any additional 64-bit voices.
