U can boot Ubuntu live CD and click on "try Ubuntu without any changes' . Now check all the folders to find any suspicious files(eg. autorun virus and any suspicious .exe files) and delete them, especially system volume information (delete everything to be sure), recycler etc. Again, it is best if you have a partitioned disk( 2 or more) or 2 or more hard drives, clear everything in the 'system volume information' and 'recycler' in all the partitions and check all folders also. Now format the partition that contains the operating system and install a fresh one. After installation is completed. Do not open any file or program( or else u r doomed). the first u do is install a powerful Anti virus(eg Avast) , personally I use Avast Internet Security. Now Use Avast to scan all the other partitions to be sure and get rid of any virus u might have over looked (if u have more than 2 partitions).I do this B'cos strong viruses are not easily detected by Anti virus soft wares. U r done!!! It works for me every time( so I never lost any important data) NB i do not keep any of data on the system drive, only movies cos i will get them again from friends.

avg free anti-virus will not only detect malware on a computer ,but also move it to a vault where your computer is protected.

    Hi
You should boot to safe mode and do scan there, try clamwin http://www.clamwin.com/
    or
    1. Download SmitFraudFix on your desktop.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/security/antispyware/smitfraudfix.cfm
2.Restar computer in safe mode). Once the Office is displayed, click on the icon SmitfraudFix.exe.
3.A menu will appear. Select option number 2, i.e. "clean (safe mode recommended)", and then press ENTER to delete infected files.
4.SmitFraudFix will then proceed with cleaning your computer by following a series of steps. Once the process is complete, it will automatically launch Disk Cleanup, disk cleanup) program.
5.Once Disk Cleanup completed, a message will ask you: "Registry cleaning - do you want to clean the registry". Reply by Y (Yes) and then press ENTER. Restart your computer.
6.SmitFraudFix will then check if the file wininet.dll is infected. It will ask you if you want to replace the infected file (if there is one): "replace infected file? Respond by typing Y (Yes) and then press ENTER.
7.Restart your computer to finish the cleanup process.
8.Once the system restarted, Notepad will open and display a screen with the list of all files deleted from your computer. If this screen does not appear, a file named report.txt will be created and stored in the root of your drive (drive C local:.)
    9.Restart computer in safe mode.
10.Go to C:WindowsTemp, click Edit, click Select all, press delete, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to send all items to the Recycle Bin.
11.GO to C:Documents and Settings [user] Local SettingsApplication, click Edit, click Select all, press delete, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to send all items to the Recycle Bin.
12.Restart your computer in normal mode again. Go to Windows Update and download all critical updates.

Running a clean up tool before you scan will also help

    Simple.

I would like to suggest several programs which you can use.

The first of which is Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html

Install it, update it, and run it. Once you run it, remove whatever it detects, and then remember to immunize your system.

Other programs you can use are malwarebytes and adaware. Links of which are http://www.lavasoft.com/ and http://www.malwarebytes.org/ .

They all offer free versions so you should be good to go.

Once all this is done, install a decent antivirus, such as AVG or Avast. If you hate those notifications anti viruses give, just install Avast and enable Gaming Mode.

    Good Luck
