How can I remove the background color of icons on my Windows desktop?

I am unable to change my background color for icons on the desktop. It really disturbs me. Please suggest solutions. I hope you will.

    you can only change the background colour of your icons to transparent if your using a newer model of windows than 2000 or ME
    the above link can help with that, but if all else fails
    install ubuntu, no background colours to your icons and its free!

    I assume you're using Windows XP.
    If that is the case, please check out the solution proposed in this article:

    Otherwise, specify which Windows version you are using.
