Can you help me recover un-finalized Sony HandyCam video data on a DVD-R disc?

Tyler Zappa asks:

I recorded video on my Sony Handycam not knowing the camera will not finalize the data on a * DVD-R * disc! I can play that video back in the Handycam itself, but when I put the disc into a computer the disk appears empty. If there would have been a file of any format visible, I could have extracted some how.

I was told to use PowerIso, so I downloaded this software, but I have NO CLUE on how I make this method work, or even use Power Iso! Please Help me anyone :)

You need to use the camera to finalize the disc first. I am still looking for manuals for instructions on how to do that (apparently not easily available on the Sony site any longer). You can try the steps here http://www.ehow.com/how_7724404_finalize-dvdr-sony-handycam.html

You need to finalize the disc through your sony cam. download the instruction from http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DCRDVD108.pdf on page 46. Hope it can help you.

The disc can be finalised on the device that was used to create it, so if you still have the handycam, put the disc back in and use the “finalise” command (it’s somewhere there in the menu!).
If you no longer have the camera, try using ISOBuster, which you can download from http://www.isobuster.com/ . There’s help on the website explaining how to use it.
