How can I recover a SD card that was not ejected properly?

I had my SD card in a card reader when the wire for it pulled out before the card was properly ejected. Now I can’t read the card in any other card reader or my digital camera. What can I do?

    Hi Lin Prescott,

you can try connecting your SD card to any other Mac system and check whether it is getting detected. Usually improper ejection of an SD card results in card corruption which leads to data loss from them. However you can recover those lost data by using a Mac photo recovery software the one which I use Yodot Mac photo Recovery software which recover SD card on Mac with ease. for further details click on the below link

    Hi,

This means that your card is corrupted after improper ejection the only way to use that card is by formatting it. But formatting will erase all your data present in that SD card. the only way to recover lost file is digital camera card recover tool. For further details click on the below links:

Are you looking to recover files from the card that are no longer accessible, or you just want to be able to use the card in other card readers? If you want to just use the card in other readers, have you tried reformatting the card within your Mac using the Disk Utility? Here's a link for the process: http://www.ehow.com/how_4794433_format-sd-card-mac.html

If you're looking to recover files, I have found that PhotoRec is an excellent data recovery tool, and it's free. The only thing is, it doesn't have a nice GUI interface, it's all command line driven. If you're ok with that, the tool works really well and is excellent at recovering files. I used it on my friend's usb hard drive - it was not ejected properly either, and all his files were showing as corrupted. PhotoRec got back everything. Their website is http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec. Hope this is helpful!

Either try to format it or use Recuva. It's free and fairly easy to use

shake it, and if you hear it rattle, then it is totally broken, if not, leave it for 24 hours in a cool, dry place, and then it should work when youk plug it in the next day.

if the SD card is no longer recognized by windows or by any other OS (MAC, Linux) then you should seek recovery company if the data are important for you.

Just to add; If you format it, be careful because from what I am aware of you will lose all the media on the card. If you are then ok with that go ahead and you will have a clean card again, but if not keep searching for more answers is my advice.

needs to be formatted and then should be fine. Try HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. This tool is not specific to HP only. Also works on other brands
