How can I record music from a cassette tape on my laptop using Audacity?

H DAS asks:

I was trying to record music from old audio cassettes from the music player to my laptop using Audacity software. I connected RCA cable end to Audio Out ports of the music player and minijack to the microphone socket of the laptop. Sadly nothing got recorded.

Audio level meter was showing a straight line during recording process. I adjusted mic volume, Audio I/O to respective settings, but did not get any result. What could be the possible solutions?

I am having the same problem, except I can see some activity on the line but I hear absolutely nothing. And yes I checked out both links from FIDELIS
