I am trying to find a free download to record for later playback of live college website videos of sporting events. For example Santa Clara Womens Soccer vs. Pepperdine at SCU on 10/28/2011, which is streamed live through All Access (Stretch Internet) right from Santa Clara’s Athletic webpage. Many colleges have these free live video streams of their home games.

you could try using audials moviebox for downloading videos and recording live video streams, it's pretty easy to use and it's especially designed for this. take for example this tutorial for recording videos from footytube which as far as i know are sometimes streaming live sporting events: http://audials.com/en/how_to_record_stream_capture_music_videos_movies_from/footytube.html
from my experience with the soft, it's a decent streaming video recorder so you can either try this or do a quick google search and check out other similar softs, there are plenty of options. anywho, hope i could help.
